GuideBotify AI Alternatives: Match the Replacement to Your Reason for Leaving

Botify AI is cheap and playful, but the filters, thin memory and tracking label push people out. Here is which replacement fits each reason, with real prices.

Botify AI, made by Ex-Human, is a cheap and playful character chat app. It is also the app people most often leave for a specific reason: the filters, the memory, the ads on the free tier, or a privacy label that mentions third-party tracking. The right replacement depends on which of those pushed you out.

Below we sort alternatives by the problem they solve, then compare what each one costs, what media it actually gives you, and where the billing or privacy fine print bites. We rate platforms on published pages, pricing, policies and user reports, not on hands-on trials. Botify itself we have not scored, so no number appears for it here.

If you only want one line: Secrets AI or Kindroid for memory with adult terms, CrushOn or Janitor if the filters were the issue, and Candy.ai if you want pictures that look like photographs.

Why people leave Botify AI

Four complaints come up repeatedly, and they point to different replacements.

  • Filters on by default. Adults can switch them off according to published guides, but plenty of users never find the setting or find it resets their character's tone.
  • Memory that does not hold. Ex-Human claims its bots retain key details. Users report bots forgetting names and context within a session. Memory is the single most common reason people move to Secrets, Kindroid or Nomi.
  • Ads and paid gates. The free version is ad-supported, and guides say unlimited messages only come with paid plans. Botify Premium is listed at $29.99/year and Ultra at $79.99/year in those guides.
  • Privacy and safety worries. Apple's iOS privacy label says Botify data can be linked to third-party tracking. In February 2025, MIT Technology Review reported on user-created bots modeled on real actors that claimed to be under 18; Ex-Human removed those bots and cited its filters.

One more thing that frustrates tinkerers: Botify does not detail which AI model it runs. If you want to know what is generating replies, you are guessing.

Botify and Character AI: the overlap

Many Botify users came from Character AI or are weighing both. Character AI has the largest character library and is free with ads, with c.ai+ at $9.99/month or $94.99/year on the App Store, adding faster replies, better memory and voice features.

But Character AI bans adult content outright, and it stopped open-ended chats for under-18 users in late November 2025. Adults have reported selfie or ID age checks being flagged. If the reason you left Botify was filters, Character AI is a step in the wrong direction. It makes sense only if you want strict SFW rules and the biggest catalogue of characters. Most alternatives listed here allow more.

How we sorted these picks

We did not rank by vibes. Each pick was checked against four questions:

  1. Does it fix the stated problem? A filter complaint and a memory complaint need different apps.
  2. What does it cost after the intro price? Several apps advertise a cheap first month that renews much higher.
  3. What is the free tier worth? Free credits, daily message caps, and whether history survives a few idle days.
  4. What do the terms and privacy pages say? Age limits, data retention, encryption claims and refund policy.

No brand paid for placement. Sources are company pages, app store listings, published terms and user reports.

If filters were your reason: CrushOn, Janitor, Nastia

CrushOn

CrushOn Standard is $5.99/month, and the free tier gives 100 message credits monthly plus uncapped access to free models with 8K memory. There are 20+ AI models and content switches for Filtered, Unfiltered and Hidden. Paid plans add longer memory, group chat, voice messages and voice cloning. The company behind it is TECHIEPIE LTD in Cyprus, per its terms.

Two caveats. The price ladder tops out at $199.99/month, so read the tier names carefully. And free-tier history is wiped after seven idle days. Some Trustpilot reports mention a small card charge for age checks; the amount is unconfirmed.

Janitor

The site and JanitorLLM are free, with an optional paid API using your own key. Janitor+ launched in June 2026 at $12.99/month, adding a bigger context window, extra enhanced swipes and priority messages.

Janitor is text-only. No voice calls, no image generation. Users report peak-hour slowdowns and errors, and a 2026 free-model swap left regulars unhappy with reply quality. If you use bring-your-own-key, your chats go to a third-party provider.

Nastia

Nastia claims uncensored NSFW chat and realistic images. Its confirmed pricing table lists a free tier with daily token limits, an $11.99 plan and Unlimited at $15.99/month, which includes unlimited messages, 4K selfies, voice messages and video. Group chat supports up to 10 characters. Voice calls are unconfirmed; voice messages and cloning sit on the top plan.

Nastia is based in France (Cybernetics) and bans minors, aged-up characters and real-person impersonation. Its privacy policy mentions only in-transit encryption. Plans auto-renew and are generally non-refundable, and you need to cancel before deleting your account. Our Secrets AI vs Nastia AI comparison goes deeper on both.

If safety and memory were your reason: Secrets, Kindroid

Secrets AI

Secrets is run by Secret Labs Inc. as an 18+ platform built around memory. Lorebooks let you edit what the AI remembers, which is the closest thing to fixing Botify's forgetting problem directly. The privacy page claims AES-256 encryption for stored data, logs wiped on account closure, and no voice audio kept.

Free users get 20 messages daily. Premium is $19.99/month or $109.99/year, about $9.17/month, adding unlimited messages, video and better memory. Ultimate adds group chat with up to three companions and proactive messages. You choose between S3, S4, S5 or X-3 models. Calls and images draw on a Moments credit balance, and the service is web-only with no store listing. Its policy permits training on conversations. We rate Secrets AI 9.9 out of 10; the full Secrets AI review covers the credit maths.

Kindroid

Kindroid, from Beautifully Incorporated in Los Angeles, splits memory into recent chat plus a journal of key memories. You write backstory, example messages and a response directive, so the character's voice and memory are partly your job. Terms are 18+, data is encrypted in transit and at rest but not end to end, and the company says it does not sell user data.

App Store pricing: $15.99/month, $42.99 for three months, $159.99/year. Group chat, voice calls with cloning and selfies are included. The free Lite tier ended October 1, 2026; new users get a 50-message preview. Ultra and MAX add-ons plus credit charges push the real cost higher.

If companionship was your reason: Nomi, Anima

Nomi, from Glimpse.ai, has three memory tiers plus a Mind Map, and paid users can run up to 10 group chats. It allows explicit text but not nude photos. App Store pricing is $15.99/month, $39.99/quarter or $99.99/year, with a limited free plan and credits for extra images.

Two things to weigh. In February 2025, MIT Technology Review reported that a Nomi bot told a user how to harm himself, and Nomi has faced complaints over a 2026 image update and paid image anchors. If you want gentle companionship rather than roleplay, Anima AI (MyAnima) runs on iOS, Android and browser with friend, flirt and boyfriend modes. Anima PRO is reported around $9.99/month or $39.99/year, unconfirmed. Its memory is rated below Nomi and Kindroid by reviewers, the free option restricts NSFW, and Mozilla's Privacy Not Included 2024 report carried a warning about it.

If images were your reason: Candy.ai, DreamGF

Candy.ai, from EverAI Limited in Malta, lets you set appearance, personality, voice and hobbies, and its picture quality is the draw. A free account stops after 5 messages. Premium is $13.99/month or $3.99/month billed yearly with 100 media tokens monthly, adding image-to-video clips, voice messages and beta voice calls. Testers say long storylines reset within days, and there is no native mobile app. Our Candy.ai review explains why the tokens run out faster than you expect.

DreamGF is visuals first and chat second. Tokens cost 10 per image, 3 per voice message and 7 per minute of voice call, from 100 tokens a month. The standard price is $25.99/month, and intro prices renew higher: the annual intro at $69.99 renews at $311.88/year. Chat intelligence sits below the memory-first companions. For a side-by-side, see Candy.ai vs OurDream AI; OurDream AI is the unlimited-chat option with its own Dreamcoin system.

If story and writing were your reason: AI Dungeon, NovelAI

AI Dungeon, from Latitude, uses Do, Say, Story and See inputs, with Plot Essentials and Story Cards to track world state. It is free on free models; paid plans vary by source. Long campaigns can lose consistency, and a 2021 moderation controversy still colours its reputation.

NovelAI starts at $10/month with a trial only and no free plan. Its Lorebook surfaces character and place details on keywords, it includes anime-style image generation, and it says prompts are encrypted. It is a writer's tool, not a companion chat app, so do not expect the same tone.

Other names you will see in roundups

DreamGen's own blog lists $6.26/month basic; earlier notes put Starter at $7.83. Kajiwoto lets you train companions with example-reply datasets, but it carries a 13+ rating and bans NSFW. Cherrypop.ai's own blog claims adjustable appearance and traits with immersive roleplay. Lollipop Chat, per a Medium roundup, offers cheap entry, strong short-term memory and NSFW, but those claims are unverified.

Privacy and safety checks before you pay

Run these before entering a card number:

  • Age terms. Secrets and Kindroid state 18+. Kajiwoto is 13+ and bans NSFW, so it is not a Botify replacement for adults.
  • Encryption claims. Kindroid encrypts in transit and at rest but not end to end. Nastia mentions only in-transit encryption. Secrets claims AES-256 stored data and wiped logs.
  • Training on your chats. Secrets' policy permits it. Kindroid says it does not sell data.
  • Renewal traps. DreamGF's annual intro renews at $311.88/year. Nastia's plans auto-renew and are generally non-refundable.
  • Free-tier data loss. CrushOn wipes free-tier history after seven idle days.

Practical habits: sign up with a nickname and a spare email, and keep your address, workplace and photos out of chats. An AI companion is not a therapist; if chats start replacing people, take a break.

How to choose in five minutes

  1. Name your reason for leaving Botify. Filter, memory, images, story or privacy.
  2. Start on a free tier that survives long enough to test memory. Ask the bot for a detail from three days earlier.
  3. Check the renewal price, not the intro price.
  4. Read the refund clause before paying.
  5. Cancel before deleting your account where the terms require it, as with Nastia.

A note on the name: Botify the SEO platform

Botify is also an enterprise SEO platform, unrelated to the chatbot. If a search for alternatives brought you here by mistake, the SEO tools usually named in that space are Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, Lumar, JetOctopus, OnCrawl, Conductor, BrightEdge, seoClarity, Semrush and Ahrefs. Nothing on this page applies to them.

Bottom line

Match the pick to your reason. CrushOn or Janitor if filters pushed you out. Secrets or Kindroid if memory and safety did. Nomi for companionship, Candy for visuals, AI Dungeon or NovelAI for stories. Start free, test memory over several days, and keep personal details out of the chat.

Frequently asked questions

Secrets AI or Kindroid if memory with adult terms matters most. CrushOn or Janitor make more sense if the default filters were your reason for leaving.

Janitor is the most generous, with the whole site free. CrushOn, Character AI and Secrets all have limited free tiers, though CrushOn wipes free history after seven idle days.

Janitor, CrushOn, Nastia, Secrets, Kindroid, Candy and DreamGF allow it for verified adults. Character AI and Kajiwoto do not.

Only if you want strict SFW rules and the biggest character library. It bans adult content and adults have reported age checks, so most alternatives here allow more.

Secrets, Kindroid, Nomi and DreamGF offer voice calls, and Candy has them in beta. Most charge credits per minute, so check the rates before using them.

A 2025 moderation report raised safety worries, and users also cite weak memory, ads on the free version and filters that ship switched on.
