GuideCandy AI Alternatives: Pick the One That Fixes Your Actual Complaint

Most people leaving Candy AI are not looking for a better chatbot. They are looking for cheaper pictures, longer memory, a real mobile app or a refund policy that isn't a trapdoor. Here is which alternative fixes which problem.

Start With the Reason, Not the Ranking

There is no single best replacement for Candy.ai. The right pick depends on what pushed you out. Someone who burned through 100 tokens in a week needs a different platform than someone whose companion forgot their job, their ex or the name of their dog after twelve messages.

Candy AI Premium costs $13.99/month, or $3.99/month billed annually, and includes 100 tokens. A Premium subscription gets you roughly 25 images or eight short videos. Extra tokens start at $9.99 per 100. Our full Candy.ai review covers how fast that adds up; this page is about where to go next.

We rate Candy.ai 9.8 out of 10 overall. It earns that score on pictures and loses ground on memory and cost predictability. If you are leaving, be specific about why. The table below is the shortest version of this article.

Two pricing notes before you compare anything. Candy AI's annual rate is genuinely cheap as a headline number; the tokens are what cost you. And several of these platforms bill through the Apple App Store or Google Play, which changes your refund options entirely. More on that below.

How We Judge an Alternative

We do not run paid subscriptions or test accounts. Rankings rest on published pricing pages, terms of service, privacy policies, app store listings and user reports from people who do pay. That means we can tell you what a platform says it charges and what its refund window is. We cannot tell you a model felt warm in conversation.

  • Real monthly cost, not the sticker price. Token and credit burn is the number that matters.
  • Refund and cancellation terms, read from the policy text rather than the FAQ.
  • Privacy policy, specifically whether chats train models and whether the vendor claims encryption it can actually deliver.
  • Platform access, meaning a native app or a browser tab.
  • Free tier honesty. A free plan with a five-message lifetime cap is a demo, not a free tier.

The Ten Alternatives, by Problem

1. Secrets AI: for the person tired of being forgotten

Secrets AI is the strongest answer to Candy AI's memory problem. Memory is layered, and Premium at $19.99/month or $109.99/year (about $9.17/month) includes 8,000 Moments. Our Secrets AI review breaks down where those Moments go: 50 per image, 600 per adult video, 50 per minute of voice call. In practice that is roughly 160 images a month, or a mix of images, video and calls.

The free plan gives 20 messages a day, all companions and basic memory, but no Moments, so no media. The first custom character is free. Ultimate at $39.99/month adds group chats, personas and proactive messages. Watch two things: monthly Moments do not roll over, and subscriptions are non-refundable except where the law requires it. EU and UK users get a 14-day withdrawal right. If memory is your complaint, also read Secrets AI vs Candy AI for the side-by-side.

2. OurDream AI: for the person tired of buying tokens

OurDream AI charges $9.99/month billed annually ($119.88/year) or $19.99 monthly, and chat is unlimited. The 1,000 dreamcoins included each month cover roughly 200 images or ten short clips, and videos run up to 60 seconds. Compare that to Candy AI's 100 tokens for about 25 images and the maths is not close.

The caveats are real. Images and videos are blurred if your subscription lapses, so you are renting access rather than owning files. Refunds are denied past 25% of a purchase used, defects must be reported within 14 days, and crypto payments are final. Character creation costs 10 dreamcoins. The OurDream AI review covers the Dreamcoin maths and the privacy fine print, which matters: the homepage claims end-to-end encryption while the privacy policy describes server-side handling and allows training on data.

3. Nomi: for the person who wants an actual app

Nomi is the obvious pick if Candy AI's browser-only setup is the dealbreaker. It is native on iOS and Android, with voice chats, hands-free calls and group chats. App Store pricing is $15.99/month, $39.99/quarter or $8.33/month yearly. There is a free tier with no credit card and credit packs from $4.99 for 40 credits.

Memory is Nomi's reputation, and its user communities treat long-running companions as the point. Two warnings. A 2026 image update changed how companions look, and restoring an earlier appearance cost users credits. And Nomi is weaker than SpicyChat or JanitorAI at sustained plot. It is a companion app, not a story engine.

4. Kindroid: for the person who wants to build the character

Kindroid is the customization option. App Store pricing is $15.99/month or $13.33/month annual, with Ultra and Max tiers above that. It is native on iOS and Android and supports voice. There are no community characters, so you write the backstory yourself, which is either the feature or the barrier depending on your patience.

Costs stack. Selfies run 50 credits for $6.99, and extra companion slots cost extra. Users have pushed back on tier changes. If you want a companion shaped to your specifications and don't mind paying for visuals on top, it is a solid second app.

5. SpicyChat: for the person who wants free chat that works

SpicyChat claims 100 million registered users and over 100,000 community characters. Free chat is unlimited with a queue at busy times and limited memory. Paid tiers are $5.95, $19.95 and $29.95/month following a September 2026 price rise. There is no video generation, and the cheapest tier has notably short memory.

It is the best free on-ramp for text roleplay with adult content. For more on the text-versus-visuals trade-off, see CrushOn AI vs Candy AI. CrushOn itself runs from $5.99/month up to a $199.99 tier, and it is the other serious text-roleplay name.

6. JanitorAI: for the person who never wants to enter a card

JanitorAI is fully free, including its own model. Janitor+ at $12.99/month arrives in June 2026 and adds five times the context plus priority messages. The platform told Forbes in May 2026 that it has about 2.5 million daily users.

What it does not have: image, video or voice generation. If you came to Candy AI for the pictures, JanitorAI is not a replacement. If you came for long, branching roleplay and the pictures were a bonus, it may be the last app you install.

7. Nastia: for the person who wants one flat bill

Nastia charges $11.99/month, or $15.99 for an Unlimited tier, with no per-image charge. The vendor claims group chats of up to ten companions, voice cloning and HD uncensored video. It also markets itself as the anti-Candy, claiming Candy AI's real cost lands at $30–$50/month rather than $12.99 and that context breaks past 10–15 messages.

Treat those claims as marketing from a competitor. We have not verified them, and neither has anyone independent we can point to. The free plan has daily limits. Nastia is worth a look on flat pricing alone, but don't take its numbers about Candy AI as fact.

8. Kupid AI: for the person who wants voice and images together

Kupid AI Premium is $13.99/month or $84/year, with an Ultimate tier at $49/month ($588/year). There is also a $777 lifetime plan. The lifetime option is a large bet on a small company; if the service changes hands or shuts down, that money is gone.

Voice and image quality are the pitch. Pricing above Premium climbs fast, and the lifetime plan deserves the scepticism you would give any prepaid ten-year commitment from a firm you had not heard of a year ago.

9. FantasyGF: for the person who wants the cheapest annual

FantasyGF lists $5.83/month on the annual plan ($69.99/year) or $12.99 monthly. Reports put the allowance at 100 tokens a month, with packs from $9.97. That is the same structural problem as Candy AI: a cheap headline and a token meter running underneath. The no-extra-fees framing does not survive contact with the token packs.

10. HeraHaven and Nectar AI: the ones to read about before paying

HeraHaven appears in one review at $19.95/month or $6.65/month yearly with 500 tokens a month. Nectar AI reportedly offers a free plan of 15 messages and ten generations a day, with credits running $60–$75/month at moderate use. Both are thin on independent reporting. If you try either, start monthly and keep the receipt.

GirlfriendGPT, a SpicyChat sister site, starts at $15/month. Promptchan is an image and video generator from $14.99/month rather than a companion app, and belongs in the tools bucket below.

Other Companion Platforms Worth Knowing

Character.AI is the largest name in AI chat and the one platform on this list that disallows NSFW conversation outright. If that is fine, it is a strong free product. If it isn't, it is not an alternative to Candy AI at all.

For a wider view of what different budgets buy, our best AI girlfriend app guide compares plans across the category, and Muah AI vs Candy.ai covers a direct rival on price and privacy.

Story and Image Tools Are Not the Same Product

Some people leaving Candy AI were never there for a companion. They wanted adult images or video and found the token meter expensive. Promptchan is the specialist option from $14.99/month. Midjourney and Canva both disallow adult content, so they are out regardless of quality.

If privacy is the whole reason you are leaving, KoboldCpp runs open-weight models locally. Nothing leaves your machine. The trade-off is setup effort and the fact that a local model will not match a hosted companion's image pipeline.

Token Cost Comparison

Candy AI100 tokens~25 images or 8 short videosFrom $9.99 per 100 tokens
Secrets AI8,000 Moments~160 images or 13 adult videosTop-ups for subscribers

NomiCredit packsDepends on packFrom $4.99 per 40 credits
FantasyGF100 tokens reportedSimilar to Candy AIFrom $9.97 per 100 tokens

Independent reviewers put Candy AI's real spend for active users at $25–$60/month. That range is the honest comparison point. Against it, OurDream AI's unlimited chat plus 1,000 dreamcoins at $9.99/month annual is the clearest saving in the category. Secrets AI at $9.17/month annual with 8,000 Moments is close behind, with stronger memory and weaker free access.

One trap applies almost everywhere: unused credits usually expire. Candy AI tokens vanish on cancellation. Secrets AI Moments don't roll over month to month. Buy small top-ups rather than large packs, and don't stockpile.

Free Tiers and What They Actually Give You

PlatformFree plan givesMessage limits
JanitorAIWhole platform, own modelNo hard caps
SpicyChatUnlimited chat, community charactersQueue at busy times
Secrets AIAll companions, basic memory20 messages/day
NomiChat, no credit cardLimited messages
Nectar AIChat and some generations, reported15 messages/day
Candy AIOne character, one image5 messages total

Candy AI's free tier is five messages in total, one character and one image. It is a demo, and everyone who has used it knows it. JanitorAI and SpicyChat are the only genuinely free text options here. Neither gives you NSFW images for free. Secrets AI's 20 messages a day is the most generous free companion chat with adult content, but the absence of Moments means pictures and calls are paywalled.

Image Quality and NSFW

Candy AI's pictures are the reason most people stayed this long. We rate its images 10 out of 10. OurDream AI is the closest competitor on volume per dollar, though its media locks when you stop paying. Secrets AI sits in between: fewer images than OurDream, better than most, and adult video included at 600 Moments a pop.

All main picks in this article allow adult NSFW chat except Character.AI. Most require 18+ confirmation at signup. If realistic images are the only thing you want, staying on Candy AI's annual plan and buying tokens sparingly is still a defensible choice.

Voice Features

Nomi, Kindroid and Secrets AI all support voice, and Secrets AI charges 50 Moments per minute of call. Nomi's hands-free calling is the most app-like implementation. Kindroid's voice sits inside a broader customization suite. Candy AI charges about 3 tokens per minute for voice, which is cheap per minute but adds to the same meter as your images.

If voice calls are central to how you use a companion, Secrets AI and Nomi are the two to compare. Our Joi AI vs Candy AI piece covers another voice-forward option.

Memory and Emotional Depth

Memory is where Candy AI loses most of its dissatisfied users, and where Secrets AI and Nomi win them. Secrets AI Premium's layered memory is designed for long relationships rather than single sessions. Nomi's communities treat month-long companions as normal. Kindroid's manual backstory approach means your character remembers what you told it to remember.

What we cannot score is emotional depth. Some users find long-term memory creates a sense of continuity; others find any companion forgets the important things eventually. Read user threads for the platform you are considering, not marketing copy.

Refunds and Cancellation

Candy AI refunds only within 24 hours and only if you have used 20 tokens or fewer. That is one of the tightest windows in the category and a common reason people leave.

Alternatives split into two groups. Nomi and Kindroid bill through the App Store or Google Play, so your refund request goes to Apple or Google under their policies, which is usually a better position than a vendor's own terms. Secrets AI, OurDream AI and Candy AI all sell direct. Secrets AI is non-refundable except where the law requires, with the EU/UK 14-day withdrawal right the notable exception. OurDream denies refunds past 25% of a purchase used.

Read the refund clause before you subscribe, not after. If the vendor sells crypto payments, assume the money is gone; that is true across the category.

Privacy and Data Security

No platform in this category offers end-to-end encryption for chats. Anyone claiming otherwise is either describing something narrower or overstating it. OurDream AI's homepage claims end-to-end encryption while its privacy policy describes server-side handling and permits training on data. That contradiction is worth knowing before you type anything intimate.

Secrets AI promises AES-256 encryption at rest and deletes chat history when you delete your account. Candy AI states that de-identified chats may be used to train models. If privacy is your main concern, the only genuinely private option is running a local model through something like KoboldCpp, with the trade-offs that implies.

For more direct comparisons, see Candy.ai vs OurDream AI and OurDream AI vs Secrets AI.

Bottom Line

Candy AI is still strong for photorealistic images. Leave it for a reason, not out of frustration. If token bills are the problem, OurDream AI at $9.99/month annual gives unlimited chat and more media per dollar. If memory is the problem, Secrets AI or Nomi. If you need a real mobile app, Nomi or Kindroid. If you want free chat, JanitorAI or SpicyChat.

Test monthly before you commit to annual, read the refund terms before you pay, and treat any vendor's claims about a competitor as marketing until you have seen the competitor's own page.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on why you are leaving. Secrets AI is the strongest pick for memory and voice calls, and OurDream AI gives you far more images for less money at $9.99/month billed annually. Both keep realistic visuals, which is what most people came to Candy AI for.

JanitorAI is free across the whole platform, including its own model, and SpicyChat offers free unlimited chat with a queue at busy times. Neither generates NSFW images for free. Secrets AI gives 20 messages a day on its free plan but no media.

Nomi and Kindroid both have native iOS and Android apps. Candy AI, Secrets AI and OurDream AI are browser-only web apps, which is one of the reasons people switch.

Secrets AI and Nomi come up most often among reviewers and user communities. Secrets AI uses layered memory on its Premium plan, and Nomi's users run companions over months. Candy AI's memory is widely reported as its weakest point.

All the main picks here allow adult NSFW chat except Character.AI, which disallows it. Most require 18+ confirmation at signup, and all of them are for adults only.
